Certified Business Appraiser Accreditation

The
Professional Accreditation Program is one of the most important
components of the Institute's professional development curriculum.
Members who meet established criteria are awarded the prestigious
professional designation of Certified Business Appraiser (CBA). This
distinction, which denotes a level of competence attained only by

special recognition and prestige among fellow appraisers, the courts
and throughout the business appraisal community.
Accreditation as a Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) is
available to those members of The Institute of Business Appraisers,
Inc. who are able to demonstrate that they have attained a high

Accredited in Business Appraisal Review (ABAR)
The Institute of
Business Appraisers will be accepting applications beginning December 1,
2005 from members seeking to earn the designation Accredited in
Business Appraisal Review (ABAR). In pioneering a designation for professionals
whose work includes a focus on appraisal work product performed by
others, IBA has once again stepped up to meet a need to identify those
practitioners whose experience and demonstrated abilities deserve
recognition.
As with all IBA
professional designations, members holding the Accredited in Appraisal
Review designation will need to survive peer review. Considering the
particular credentials of designation candidates, the following list of
prerequisites has been developed:
Applicants must be
IBA members in good standing, and provide two professional and two
personal references.
Applicants must
possess a 4-year university degree or equivalent.
Applicants must
demonstrate 10,000 hours’ experience in appraisal review, or 90 hours of
appraisal education. Twenty-four (24) of these hours must have been
earned through education sponsored by IBA.
Applicants must
hold a business appraisal designation awarded by IBA, AICPA, ASA, CICBV
or NACVA or must have achieved a passing grade on the CBA written
examination.
Applicants must
successfully complete IBA Course 1044 - Critiquing Business Valuation
Reports, and achieve a passing grade on a comprehensive examination
developed to test mastery of appraisal concepts and knowledge of report
review rubrics.
Applicants must
submit two appraisal reviews, which will be peer reviewed to determine
if the reviews meet professional standards of competence. A detailed
Applicant’s Handbook will set forth the competencies which the applicant
must demonstrate.
Re-accreditation
will be required under the same requirements as all IBA designations.
The Accredited in
Business Appraisal Review designation will provide valuable training for
appraisers who review the work of other professionals; for individuals
providing litigation support services; for financial professionals who
must dissect the appraisal work submitted as part of due diligence; and
for any professional whose work includes critiquing business appraisals.
The
examinations, applicants handbook and review process are the result of
the work of IBA volunteers whose daily work includes detailed review of
appraisal work product. As with all IBA member services, volunteers are
essential to everything we do, and the members involved in this project
have our sincere gratitude.
