Too Good To Be True?

Yesterday I attended an informal meeting of a local group of matrimonial attorneys who practice “collaborative divorce”. This is a non-litigious process (the attorneys sign agreements that state that, if the parties fail to settle, the attorneys will not be involved in subsequent litigation) aimed at minimizing the anguish, cost, and time involved in resolving these matters.

I have long abhorred and do not get involved anymore with divorce litigation. It’s painful and costly for everyone involved, and I have the scars to prove it. Life is just to short.

In collaborative divorce, business valuation professionals are mutually appointed, and our opinions are inputs for the parties to negotiate settlements. It’s very similar to mergers and acquisitions…constructive, creative negotiations.

If anyone reading this has been involved in collaborative divorce, I would love to hear from you!
