Business Appraisal Review Accreditation
Workshop (1044) held in Chicago, IL on September 22-25, 2009
A Senior Designation for CBAs, CFAs, CVAs, AVAs, ABVs, and ASAs
Business appraisal review is a critical component of every business appraiser’s practice. No firm can risk being caught unaware of quality assurance problems. Customer demands, potential penalties and sanctions, and loss of business are real possibilities in this era of heightened focus on professional responsibility.
This course, and the associated accreditation, ensures that practitioners and firms are equipped to optimize the quality of business appraisals produced by firm associates. The course teaches an innovative appraisal review and quality assurance procedure, and, upon successful completion of the course, examination and business appraisal review report (all administered and completed during the class session), participants may qualify for the Accredited in Business Appraisal Review (ABAR) accreditation from the Institute of Business Appraisers.
My experience in the ABAR certification workshop was among the best I can recall in my 30 years of practice. The concepts of the workshop were well designed and the instruction was second to none. Among the unanticipated benefits were the contacts I made with so many highly qualified classmates. The class became a forum for discussion on many interesting valuation topics. These informal discussions among such an esteemed group became a highlight of the class and it was a byproduct of the class agenda.

What You Will Learn
Participants are presented with an appraisal review outline and rubric, as well as a template for a business appraisal review report. Participants learn the techniques of business appraisal review in small group breakout sessions facilitated by expert ABAR-accredited instructors. Specifically, they will:
• Learn how to express their business appraisal review findings in a concise and effective fashion
• Learn the elements of business appraisal review of interest to stakeholders in the appraisal process
• Improve their own appraisal skills and learn how to identify strengths and potential weaknesses of their own appraisal reports
• Improve their mentoring and coaching skills
Participants will get a new perspective on their appraisal techniques, be able to critically review the work product of others, and receive their accreditation upon satisfactory completion of the workshop requirements. Plus, the ABAR accreditation provides an instant economic advantage to the business appraiser.
Who Should Attend
Accredited practitioners (CBA, CFA, CVA, AVA, ABV, ASA) interested in advancing their appraisal skills and developing new business opportunities, accredited practitioners acting as expert witnesses, and senior practitioners in charge of appraisal staff will greatly benefit from the skills taught in the workshop, along with valuation practitioners representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service and other regulatory agencies.
